The list of questions we had for Rep. Jasmine Crockett was LONG. When we were preparing for today’s conversation, we thought a lot more focus would be on the Texas redistricting fight and how it’s playing out across the rest of the country—sure to muddy up the waters ahead of the 2026 midterms. And then came Tuesday, when lawmakers returned to Capitol Hill after the summer recess.
Rep. Crockett serves on the House Committee on the Judiciary and the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, which puts her right in the middle of the latest saga over the Epstein files.
The House Oversight Committee posted more than 30,000 pages of documents it received from the Justice Department related to Epstein— but an overwhelming amount of those documents were already public.
Crockett was one of the lawmakers who met with Epstein survivors on Capitol Hill Tuesday, and we talked at length about what she heard in those meetings.
“The DOJ, as far as I’m concerned, never finished the job,” Crockett said to us Wednesday morning. “They never finished doing the investigation, which is one of the reasons that I’ve been very vocal on—if you have information, come forward.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) introduced a discharge petition to force a vote on the release of the Epstein files. It’s basically a procedural workaround for lawmakers to bring something to the floor for a vote if leadership doesn’t. But the White House and other GOP leaders started a pressure campaign to stop Republicans from signing it.
“I think all people, whether you are American, whether you are not, should look at the White House’s response and it tells you everything you need to know. And the reason I say whether you’re American or not is because it was made very clear to us yesterday after our roundtable that this isn’t just levels of corruption at the highest levels of the U.S. government, but there is absolutely implication in foreign government as well,” Crockett said.
We also unraveled plans to send National Guard troops to more U.S. cities and why she thinks the average American needs to better understand the difference between police training and military training. Plus, the president’s health, how she stays quick on her feet and what gives her hope at the end of each day.
